FAQs
How to obtain an exemption from taking the Infection Control and Barrier Precautions training or coursework in New York?
Licensed nurses who are not practicing in New York or received equivalent training are exempted from taking the required coursework.
You can apply for an Exemption Request here.
All exempted professionals should renew their exemption every renewal period.
Is New York considered a compact nursing state?
No, New York does not have legislation for eNLC.
So if you are a licensed nurse from a compact state and want to get an additional nursing license in New York, you should be granted a license by endorsement by the NYSED.
Candidates who are not licensed in the U.S. should take the NCLEX licensing exam.
How long will it take to obtain a nursing license by endorsement in New York?
It would take about 6 to 8 weeks once all the required documents are submitted. However, the process may take longer due to the increasing number of applicants each year or due to seasonal fluctuations.
If there are still no updates about your application after 6 weeks, you can submit a request update.
How can I check or verify the status of my New York nursing license?
You can check the status of your license in the NY online license verifications. Once you have a license number, your name will automatically be added to the system.
NYSED does not provide license application statuses by phone.
Conclusion
